International conference „Business in Daugavpils and Latgale SEZ”

On March 3, 2017, 239 representatives of business were brought together in Park Hotel „Latgola”. Out of them, more than 100 were entrepreneurs from Latvia; more than 50 representatives from ministries, embassies, chambers of trade and commerce, development agencies, consulates, the Saeima of Latvia, other SEZ and various foreign missions in Latvia; more than 50 international representatives from 9 countries and other parties interested in business opportunities in Daugavpils and Latgale Special Economic Zone.

Latgale Special Economic Zone (SEZ) operates from January 2017. This international conference was organized with the aim to present advantages of SEZ for business development in the Latgale region.

During the conference, experts expressed their views on how entrepreneurs can gain maximal return through the benefits provided by the Special Economic Zone. Information about support for entrepreneurs provided by the state and municipality, the Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Business incubator, program “Altum” and State Employment Agency were given. Representatives of enterprises and business parks in Daugavpils shared their experience at the conference about their good practice in this city.

Within the conference, cooperation agreements were signed between Latgale SEZ and Vitebsk SEZ in Belorussia and between Dienvidlatgale Department of Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and Vitebsk Department of Belarusian CCI.

Four visits to enterprises were provided for the participants of the conference. More than 60 business contacts were organized between entrepreneurs. 3 companies from Lodz (Poland), 5 enterprises from Vitebsk (Belarus), 7 enterprises from Pskov (Russia), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pskov region, as well as the Embassy of Belgium participated at B2B.

Latgale SEZ provides a lot of advantages for business development in Daugavpils, Latgale and in the world. In cooperation with foreign representatives a close exchange of experience, networking and transfer of knowledge in order to achieve common goals is planned. The organizers of the event have provided all that is necessary for establishment of business contacts. The rest depends on entrepreneurs themselves. In general, there was a great interest about the conference, specific questions were raised and exhaustive answers were received. “Daugavpils is business” and this strategic direction of the city should be developed.
