On the 19th of October Daugavpils was visited by rector of Rīga Stradiņš University Jānis Gardovskis and rector of BA School of Business and Finance Andris Sarnovičs. The aim of their visit was a professional orientation.

Rector of Rīga Stradiņš University visited the Medical College, and was very surprised by the level of the institution, its technical support and emphasized that investment for the development of the school are involved is intensively. In his turn, rector of BA School of Business and Finance gave a lecture "The future starts today: the competencies required for entrepreneurs and career" in Daugavpils Secondary School No. 6 named after Rainis, Daugavpils 3rd Secondary School and the Gymnasium of Center.

At 11.00 rector of Rīga Stradiņš University visited the regional hospital. Passed a meeting with the hospital management, Daugavpils City Council 1st Vice-Chairman Vitālijs Azarevičs and students who wish to study at the Rīga Stradiņš University. The hall was full.

The head of the Daugavpils Regional Hospital Aivars Zdanovskis believes that young people should be involved in a sphere of medicine. Medicine, including Daugavpils, is sorely lacking of new specialists, that is exactly why such events are necessary. Daugavpils hospital is missing 15 specialists in different areas. In common, 80% of all doctors - are of retirement age or preretirement age, therefore the youngsters sitting in the hall could become a replacement for the elder generation. But will it happen?

Daugavpils City Council 1st Vice-Chairman Vitālijs Azarevičs believes that government in able to support new professionals: currently it is fully providing young families with kindergartens, we need to care about social guarantees and apartments. Daugavpils City Council is able and is ready to do it. Another thing is that the government cannot handle this problem alone. For example, in Kraslava for 20 years did not come up a new doctor. Mr. Azarevičs believes that only decent wages can keep specialists in Latvia and attract young people to the profession.
