Next year Speedway Grand Prix will be held in Daugavpils

On the 17^th of September at “Lokomotiv” stadium was held a press-conference, where was discussed Grand Prix stage inDaugavpils. Press-conference was opened by City Council Vice-chairman Vjačeslavs Širjakovs.

He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the 50th anniversary of the club, which will be celebrated in 2013, may be noted by big sporting event - the Grand Prix Speedway.

Leader of the speedway club Vladimirs Ribnikovs confirmed that on the 14th of September was signed a contract and The Grand Speedway will be held inDaugavpilson the 17th of August, 2013.

Competition of this magnitude – is a very expensive pleasure. City Council Vice-chairman Vjačeslavs Širjakovs explained that the council fully supports the organization of the competition in the best of their capabilities. In addition, the Daugavpils City Council with the assistance of the speedway club appealed to government to support the Grand Prix at the state level. Vjačeslavs Širjakovs hopes that this support will be forthcoming, as the speedway is a visiting card not only forDaugavpils, but also a great event of the Latvian level. The competition will be broadcast in more than 150 countries and the name ofLatviawill sound broadly.

Vladimirs Ribnikovs admitted that now the have a lot of work to do in order to attract sponsors and fans. There is an intention advertise widely this competition among tourists, to ease the visa application process, as many fans are coming fromRussia.

Head of Daugavpils governance of Sports Aleksandrs Isakovs expressed willingness to work closely with the club in order to organize the competition at the highest level.

At the end of the conference two athletes were congratulated - for a well-deserved third place in the second final round of the European Championship Speedway Andzejs Lebedevs and his coach - Nikolajs Kokins received a Diploma, presented by Vjačeslavs Širjakovs.
