Maxime Cassis confirmed with his visit that World Snooker Championship will be held in Daugavpils


The President of European Billiards and Snooker Association Maxime Cassis visited Daugavpilson August 12. His visit in the city started with the meeting in Daugavpilscity council. Chairperson of city council Jānis Lāčplēsis and 1st deputy chairperson Jānis Dukšinskis met the high guest.

Discussion topic was in November upcoming World Snooker Championship for amateurs which will be held in Daugavpils Olympic Centre.

Jānis Lāčplēsis expressed hope that visit inDaugavpilswill be successful and all questions will be solved. The city mayor expressed a willingness to work and cooperate with association in order to have successful and better organised competition in comparison with European Championship which also took place inDaugavpilsin 2012.

Maxime Cassis admitted thatDaugavpilsexperience was very successful, that’s why he is sure that everything will work. There are no obstacles, only minor issues that should resolve. This is big responsibility for the city. Maxime Cassis explained that in World Billiards and Snooker Federation are around 80 countries, but in World Championships takes part approximately 50 countries. Also tourists come to see the competitions.

Jānis Lāčplēsis confirmed the big interest of municipality in organisation such competitions, which popularizeDaugavpilsname and promotes cooperation. Maxime Cassis told that in closest time Daugavpils city council will receive official letter signed by the President of World Billiards and Snooker Federation.

At the end of the meeting Jānis Lāčplēsis thanked for their trust in Daugavpils, wished success and expressed readiness to support organizers in case if there will be issues addressed to municipality.

Jānis Lāčplēsis wished everyone to have a great and interesting sport event together.
