Students are invited to a new autumn guided tour “Get to know the Daugavpils Fortress!”

Daugavpils Fortress is a unique place in Daugavpils as well as all around the world. Therefore, we should be proud that there is such significant cultural and historical heritage in our city. 

We invite both teachers and students to refresh their knowledge about the history, to find out something new about this place and take part in exciting and entertaining guided tours around the Daugavpils Fortress. 

We have specially designed a student program that lasts for 1 hour and 30 minutes and includes:

• A visit to the Daugavpils Fortress Culture and Information Centre that is a former Water-lifting House, 15-20 minute story about the history of the Fortress and an opportunity to get acquainted with the historical exposition;
• A visit to the Nicholas Gate during which everyone will be able to hear the "voice of the past" - to talk through the arched slots;
• A walk across the Wooden Bridge over the moat of the Fortress. An incredible opportunity to find out the length and width of the bridge, as well as to reveal who is faster and more accurate;
• A visit to the Guardhouse of the 1st Coastal Lunette where everyone can assemble Fortress puzzle (can also be split into two teams and compete). Familiarisation with the layout of the fortress, informative talk about the external and internal fortifications and their role in the protection of the territory;
• A walk along the Main Rampart and the story about the surrounding cultural and historical environment;
• A visit to the Casemate of the 7th Bastion or a visit the 6th Curtain Lunette, a talk about the bats and the largest hibernating colony of  bats in Latvia;
• A visit to the Powder Warehouse and a walk along its lateral galleries. A possibility for everyone to find out why we need a certain plan of the building;
• A visit to the oldest stone building in Daugavpils - Jesuit Collegium, and the story about the Fortress Cathedral.

We offer following prices for the guided tours (1 hour and 30 minutes long) around the Fortress for students:

For a group up to 10 people – 11.00 EUR

For a group up to 20 people – 15.00 EUR

For a group up to 30 people – 23.00 EUR

For a group up to 40 people – 30.00 EUR

For a group up to 50 people – 38.00 EUR

Guided tours could be in Latvian, Russian and English language.
