The flu in Daugavpils has not stopped
Monitoring indicates that despite the high level of illness, the flu slowly reduces, but it doesn’t indicate that epidemic ends. Last week there were 635 ill people, the week before last – 976 ill people.
This year a lot of children are ill. Head of Regional Hospital Aivars Zdanovskis informed that flu is heavy this year, with many complications. Most common complication is pneumonia, new complication – antritis.
From the beginning of epidemic 231 ill people placed into the hospital, 138 of them are children. Flu usually lasts 4-5 days.
Flu has acute beginning. Temperature raises over 38 degrees during few hours. Bones and eyes hurts – these are the first flu symptoms. At the beginning it is not recommended to lower temperature if it is till 38 degrees, but if it lasts for several days, visit a doctor because it may indicate the complications. Doctors do not recommend using aspirin to reduce temperature because it may cause eruption.
The illness with flu in Daugavpils is serious, but specialists follow the situation and recommend not attending public events.
Speaking about effectiveness of vaccination, Aivars Zdanovskis confirmed that practice shows – vaccinated are not being sick or goes through the illness easier.
The situation at the educational institutions is not dramatic. 85% of pupils attend schools. Worse situation is at the kindergartens – 40% does not attend kindergartens. Administration of educational institutions follows the preventive measures and does not allow sick children and staff to attend educational institutions. Due to flu epidemic, public events in Daugavpils are limited.
