Many citizens of Daugavpils were awarded in honor of national hoilday.

On the 18th of November Daugavpils and the entire country celebrated the 94th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia. And during the solemn meeting in the theater and in Vienibas square, during a live broadcast of Latvian Television citizens were able to see the speech of the President of Latvia Andris Berziņš. Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Edmunds Sprudžs came to the second largest city of Latvia to meet the main national holiday of the country with the citizens of Daugavpils. He brought the Diploma of the Ministry headed by him to the head of Daugavpils company «Maģistrs» Tatjana Dovorecka "For the long-term contribution to the development of business and social life in Daugavpils and Daugavpils region" and pronounced the festive speech to the crowd. One of the main events of the holiday was the presentation of "Award of the year" by Daugavpils government for year 2012.

Daugavpils government's Diplomas were presented to the teacher of Daugavpils State Gymnasium Valentina Prokofjeva, teacher's assistant at Rugeļi kindergarten Veneranda Jemeljanova,  specialist of SpecATU company Valentina Ledoka, specialist of Daugavpils Housing Enterprise  Anžela Ivanova, head of the Academy of Karate Shotokan of Daugavpils Andrej Komar, Center of judo and sambo «Singitaj» and head of folk dance group «Saime» Lilija Graudiņa.

Twelve signs of the "Silver Lily" were presented  with diplomas to the head of SIA Rital D Viktors Radilovecs, heads of kindergartens Genovefa Fedorkiv and Vita Ģirsa,  mathematics teacher in third secondary schoolAnna Stavicka, a veteran athlete Vera Grinbert, urologist, Head of Urological Centre of Latgale Oleg Hublarov , a bus driver with nearly 50 years’ experience, Ivan Vinogradov, bus park manager Janina Dorofeeva, whose work experience at the same place makes 55 years, Associate Professor of English Philology of Daugavpils University Bronislavs Kalviņš, the duty doctor of the Centre of Child Health Nadežda Osite, a pediatrician of the same medical institution Ludmila Žarkova and the youth department of the society "Red Cross."

"Awards of the Year" have received the Head of Department of general education and professional education Inara Sprindžuka, Deputy Director on scientific work of Daugavpils Regional and Art museum Ludmila Žilvinska, two coaches who trained our Olympians Anastasija Grogorjeva and Dmitrijs Jurkevičs Sergejs Kursītis and Romuald Jurkevičs , Axon Cable company , chairman of the board of DLRR Nataljia Petrova and chairman of Daugavpils society of persons with disabilities Vanda Mihailova. All solemn meeting, awards ceremony and a concert was seen in the live television broadcast on video portal of Daugavpils government tv.daugavpils.lv

The holiday concluded with a joint singing of the national anthem, fireworks, and professional brass band concert on the square of Vienības.
