The Initiation Conference of Fortified Ideal Cities will be held in Daugavpils, in the 29th – 30th August, 2011.
“Fortified Ideal Cities” are a specific kind and independent category of the fortified cultural heritage. Their foundation bases on a military strategy for defence of regions, infrastructure and settlements from the 15th till 18th century. Meanwhile the town planning was realised under instruction and requirements of the military administration.
Daugavpils (Dinaburg) Fortress is one of the biggest Fortified Ideal Cities in Europe.
This category of the fortified cultural heritage has a very high historical value, but it is not studied and presented at the tourist market properly. Its objects are neither branded nor linked.
Representatives of various European Fortified Ideal Cities will come to the Initiative Conference to search common interests, discuss and plan possible joint actions.
Cooperation may be developed to the new tourist offers, routes and marketing, exchanging the experience and best examples of how to preserve and develop the historical cultural heritage.
We hope that our conference will open a new thinking about the opportunities of cooperation and give impulses for the Fortified Ideal Cities.
The Initiative Conference is organised by the European Cooperation Centre of Fortified Heritage ECCOFORT (Berlin, Germany), Daugavpils City Council and Daugavpils University.
