On the 20-21th of September an International Investment Forum took place inDaugavpils, which this year has grown to a scale of Latgale region. Forum's motto is "Latgale - East Gate of the European Union”. Forum was opened by Daugavpils City Council chairperson Žanna Kulakova.
The mayor wished lots of new information and new business partners, ideas and surprises in Daugavpils.

Forum participants were welcomed by minister of Environment Protection of a regional development Edmund Sprudzh. He emphasized that the forum is a confirmation of the fact that Latgale’s region has the potential and opportunities for development. Significantly, the forum is held in September, when rye is sown, which rises in the spring. He hopes that the ideas which have appeared during the forum will bring results. The minister believes that the task of the Ministry is to support the business environment, for example, North Industrial Zone of Daugavpils, where plans to upgrade infrastructure.
Chairman of Latgale Regional Planning Gunars Upenieks also pronounced the speech for those present. Exactly Latgale’s planning region is the main partner of Daugavpils City Council on the organization of the forum. Gunars Upenieks expressed joy atDaugavpilsand its life. He believes that business development needs the governmental support, so he looks forward to the cooperation of municipalities and government.
Participants of the forums were also welcomed by rector of Daugavpils University Arvid Barševskis.
Mr. Barshchevsky noted thatDaugavpilsand Latgale is a place of opportunities and these opportunities must be used and developed. We need to talk about the positive things, and not to complain about the problems. He emphasized that the great potential of regional development and science should be used. Today is Mr. Barševskis’ birthday, so, using the opportunity, after DU’s rector Arvid Barševskis pronounced the speech, Chairperson of Daugavpils City Council Žanna Kulakova congratulated him.
Forum participants also welcomed the diplomats - the ambassador of Poland Jerzy Marek Novakovskis, Ambassador of Belarus Alexander Gerasimenko, Ambassador of Spain Consuelo Femenia.
Speech was also pronounced by the adviser to the deputy of General Director Directorate General for Regional Policy of the European Commission for convergence, competitiveness and foreign programs Josef Stahl.
After a celebratory speechesDaugavpilspresented itself. The presentation was demonstrated by Daugavpils City Council Vice-chairperson Livija Jankovska and Head of Business Development department, Vladimirs Nadeždins.
Forum continues discussions, presentations, and after dinner work in groups will take place.
