From 13 to 20 April, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre is organizing the second international photography symposium.
Photography is a unique means of communication, practicable between acquaintances and strangers alike. It also comes in good stead as a way of communicating with oneself. It can blend astonishing reality with images from our experience.
“Daugavpils is big enough to have given participants of the 2nd photography symposium plenty of material for studies of local reality and to have made this experience an exciting adventure. At the same time, the town is also small enough to have enabled each photographer to recap this adventure in a brief but convincing visual narrative,” says Vilnis Auziņš, curator and participant of the symposium.
Photography symposium highlights photography as a continued pictorial story, sharing with the audiences candid visual accounts of foreign artists’ perceptions of present-day Latvia.
The eight participants of the 2nd International Photography Symposium represent five different countries: Dionysis Livanis (Great Britain), Anita Gratzer (Austria), Robert Atwater (USA), Juris Kmins (Latvia), Dace Voitkeviča (Latvia), Linda Lazdiņa (Latvia), Vilnis Auziņš (Latvia), Algimantas Aleksandravičius (Lithuania).
Artwork created by symposium participants will be exhibited at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre 20 April through 20 May.
