On May 2 in Daugavpils City Council the meeting of Chairperson of Daugavpils City Council Žanna Kulakova with the senator of Polish Parliament Marek Konopka, the consul of the Embassy of Poland in Latvia Janusz Dawidowicz and participants and guests of VI International Festival “Polish Folklore in Latgale” took place. Among guests there were representatives of national dance collectives fromLatvia,LithuaniaandPoland.
Marek Konopka for the first time inDaugavpils, shared his positive impressions aboutDaugavpilswith city administration. He thanked for the high level of organization of International Festival of Polish Folklore, noted the hospitality ofDaugavpilscitizens which causes the desire to come here again. Žanna Kulakova emphasized the great importance of cooperation betweenDaugavpilsand the Polish Parliament. Mayor mentioned the big contribution ofPolandto the reconstruction of the building of the State Polish Gymnasium named after J. Pilsudski and the building of the Polish kindergarten. Polish community is one of biggest inDaugavpils, it makes an essential contribution to development of the city, preservation of the national traditions and culture, maintenance of communication with the ethnic homeland.
The presentation of the city was offered to guests. The guests of the VI International Festival "The Polish Folklore in Latgale" thanked the Daugavpils City Council and the Daugavpils Centre of the Polish culture for such a significant and well organized event. The head of the dance collective from Poland Grzegorz Zimowski called it “the festival of a youth and friendship”. The representative of the Polish city ofElkon the behalf of city administration expressed interest in development of trade and economic cooperation withDaugavpils. Žanna Kulakova thanked for such an interesting offer, and noted thatDaugavpilshas many twin-cities and partners in cooperation, and every offer of development, expansion and strengthening of mutually advantageous communication is accepted with gratitude.
