From the 9th of November video surveillance system in Daugavpils began working in a stationary, not a test mode. On the 14th of December Municipal Police invited journalists to review the operation of this system and its first results.
55 cameras have been installed at 28 objects. City center includes 19 objects, Jaunbūve housing estate and Ķīmiķu housing estate have 8 cameras,JaunāForštate housing estate has one object.
The system is serviced by nine employees whose shift lasts 12 hours. From the 9th of November have been registered 62 incidents, 9 materials serve as evidence and transferred to the State police, in common 48 materials were transferred .
Police officers informed that theft, alcohol use, accidents and fights were registered by cameras. The last one was on the13th of December at Vienibas Square.
A video surveillance system allowed arresting the offenders quickly.
All records are stored one month; evidences of accidents are kept for 5 years
This project was implemented in Daugavpilsin order to make life more secure, so the residents can feel themselves secure, and city property is in safe.
