A few days inDaugavpilswere spent by the delegation ofHarbin’s city , which is our twin city inChina. Members of the delegation were head managers and chiefs ofHarbin’s TV information service, correspondents of the biggestHarbin’s newspaper. The aim of the visit was creating the film and a series of publications about all the 27 twin cities ofHarbin. Guests were interested in our city’s history and modern life: possibilities of investment, development of economics, transport and all the rest spheres of city’s management. The guests found interesting as well the spheres of national culture as the unique multiculturalism ofDaugavpils. The delegation attended several cultural institutions ofDaugavpils: Centre of Clay’s Art,Daugavpilstheatre,MusicalCollege, Daugavpils Regional and Art Museum. Also Daugavpils Fortress,UniversityofDaugavpils, Ice-hall ofDaugavpils, the Olympic Centre, and Pellet Producing Factory was visited. The guests also promenaded throughout the city.
On the 13th of October the members of delegation had a meeting withDaugavpils City Council Chairperson Žanna Kulakova. The Mayor narrated in details to the representatives ofHarbin about theDaugavpils, the possibilities ofLatvia’s second largest city, the capital city ofLatgale’s region,Daugavpils. Žanna Kulakova answered to loads of questions. Chinese delegation was especially interested in the Project of Daugavpils Airport development, and they asked to prepare all the necessary documents which include the detailed information about the project. The guests shared their positive impressions aboutDaugavpils with the Mayor and expressed one’s gratitude for the pleasant visit.
In the end of the meeting, the Chinese delegation offered Žanna Kulakova to leave an autograph and some wishes on a symbolic twin cities’ flag ofHarbinand in the book of chairpersons and their wishes. Worth noticing is the fact, thatDaugavpilsandHarbinboth have two common commonwealth cities. It is a German Magdeburg and Belorussian Vitebsk. Friendly relation withVitebskcity was achieved after the meeting of Belorussian andHarbin’s delegations inDaugavpils.
